For our deeper understanding of the culture it is good to meet people, like opinion makers, artists, curators and so on... we keep going back and forth from Moengo to paramaribo. Here we have a gemberjuice with Mister Ken Doorson. He has an interesting practise as an artist and tour operator. He is also involved and closely connected to the cultural revival of Moengo.

Enkele dagen geleden op 25 februari was het REVO dag. De omstreden 'viering' van de revolutie. We waren in Paramaribo gaan kijken bij de nachtelijke kranslegging. Deze afgebeelde krans is van Bouterse. Hij wordt op de krans geduidt als LEIDER van de Revolutie tevens president van de republiek Suriname.

Gisteren waren we op bezoek op de OS Wonoredjo school, bij het schoolhoofd juffrouw Anita. We praten over onderwijs in Suriname, over armoede, schooluitval, incest etc. Zij houdt ook de tijd in de gaten omdat ze de bel bedient.

In our teaching we find a lot of references to the civil war (binnenlandse oorlog) in the eighties. Some of the drawings have guns/ soldiers and violence. A lot of children have issues with agression and authority. We have talks about this with some teachers in the local community and also with the inspector of education from the district.

We have a meeting with the council member Mr. Alanterie who is working in Moengo and dealing with locations for new ARTworks. We introduce our topic and find a location. We present our ideas to him. He is enthusiastic and cooperative!

We continue to meet people that are important in the community. Our guest on our terras is Mrs. Olivia Dominie. Very involved on social issues like sexual abuse in the local community and also a member of the Distric Council (DR) of Marrowijne.

All houses have a defense line. People re completely caged in. At least this family made fun with the design of spiderwebs. Like what we have seen in Peru, in Suriname we also see a dramatic change from public- to private space.

We zijn bezig met een literatuurlijst van allerlei studies die we tegenkomen. De komende tijd werken we aan een goed overzicht. Echter sommige zaken kunnen we de lezers niet onthouden.... Dit is echt een aanrader, met de titel lijkt alles gezegd!

Op de muur van het postkantoor in Paramaribo bevind zich een groot mozaiek van de wereldkaart, met in het midden Nederland. De wereldkaart die nu wordt uitgegeven heeft Suriname zelf in het midden.
